Event #4: Teatro De Historia

Looong overdue post. Seriously. This event happened wayy in October/November.

In our school, we have this 'moving play' sponsored by the Herodotus Society (a group of history loving kids) that it is held in our main stairwell. Our stairwell has 6 flat levels and for each and every level, there's a stage setting depicting a unique story about history. Before, we called it tableau. Now, we called it Teatro de Historia.

Last year, we didn't have this for confidential reasons. Luckily, we were approved to do it this year, when my friends and I were seniors. Not only that, it was the last year of Miss Blesilda Bernardo's term as Herodotus Society adviser (the term lasts for four years, unless the teacher resigns before his/her term). It was a big deal for Jolin, the president; Reine, the vice president; and I, the secretary. Luckily, the turnout was great and the product? Awesome.

Our banner for the day (:

Don't get me wrong, I love theater so much. But I swear, this was one of the most tiring days. EVER. And, we also had a MAJOR MAJOR exam that day. So... Kill me. Now.

That day, I was both nervous and frustrated. One, I was just scared that something bad might go wrong... Like a prop being destroyed, a forgotten line, or maybe a wardrobe malfunction. Luckily, none of that happened.

At the start of the day, all of us officers, and even the cast members, were fixing EVERYTHING. The backdrops, props, and additional decor. After the stage was set, the cast members did their own makeup while Jojo, Reine, and I went to teachers and confirmed their visit to the stairwell. The cast members only approached us if they had any questions about the costumes or make up

Reine, Jojo, and I. Yes, we had matching dresses thanks to Reine. Tres cute! ♥

Here are the preparations before the show:

Prayer time before we open the house (:

So the first guests were, of course, the admin and teachers who had their free time.

The first level consists of an excerpt from the classic tale The Three Musketeers.

This scene was the part where D'artagnan just arrived in Paris and earned the irk of the three musketeers. The three then thought that D'artagnan was just a proud fool. Yet when they teamed up, D'artagnan proved that he was really a skilled swordsman and finally earned the respect of the three musketeers.
D'artagnan was played by MELSON ONG. The three musketeers were played by ARVY NGO, HANTO ISHII, and SEAN YAP while the king's soldiers were played by ADRIAN ISIGNE and ALWIN LIM

The second level was the story of Samson. Samson was a man gifted by God with amazing strength. But he was given a condition, he should not cut his hair. One day, Samson fell into the lure of Delilah who actually had ties with the Philistines, Samson's sworn enemies. The Philistines paid Delilah to learn the secret of Samson's strength and once she knew, she was tasked to cut his hair when he was asleep. Being weak, he could not fight the Philistines when they captured him. Later on, his hair suddenly grew back and he regained his strength. With this new strength, Samson killed his enemies.

In our excerpt, Samson was played by LIU KIN LIU, Delilah by HOLLY ANG, and a Philisitine was played by SEAN, a fellow senior.

The third scene was an excerpt from Homer's Iliad. The section was the fight between the heroes of Greece and Troy, Achilles and Paris. These two roles were played by real-life brothers JOSHUA and JUSTIN CUA respectively.

And yes, we made them wear our skirts (:

The next level shows us the inspiring story of David and Goliath. In here, we see how our GOD is an amazing God. He allowed David, a small shepherd, to beat Goliath, a nine-foot military-trained soldier. David was played by HARLI YOUNG and Goliath, of course, by ETHAN CASARES

Yes, skirts. AGAIN. But seriously, where in the world did we get a skirt that fits Ethan?

The fifth level is what we consider as a 'bonus scene.' In here, our two influential women pull up someone in the audience and makes them answer about their identity. These two women were Artemis and Cleopatra, played by JASMINE YU and DANIELLE NG CHA respectively

Our last scene is probably one of the most musical/dramatic scenes in the whole play. It was a scene taken from Les Miserables. It's a combination of the revolution scene and Eponine's death scene. This is probably one of the hardest scenes AND it had the most number of cast members. In this scene, the cast sang two song from the movie/musical. The first is a duet between Eponine and Marius... A Little Fall Of Rain. The second is the famous Do You Hear The People Sing?

Eponine was played by ALTHEA PABICO and CHARLENE UY, alternating. LANCE CHAM gave justice to the role of MARIUS. TRISTAN HAWSON and aiken so were French soldiers while RICH LIM and ALEX CHUA were the rebels.
